caleb2006 @ 01:15 pm: The hanging of Gary Glitter
Did anybody see that last night?
I found it an uncomfortable yet compelling drama on a number of levels, the first being 'what was the purpose?'
- was it to re-address pressure onto Paul Gadd, to hound him further? Don't get me wrong, i have NO sympathy for what he was convicted of, but find the hounding of him through this drama a bit of a lynching.
- was it to re-examine the conviction? Don't see the point of that since he is not seeking to clear his name and nobody is calling for such a thing.
- was it to debate the rights and wrongs of capital punishment? i'm not aware that a debate is currently on, and thankfully believe that it would never/could never be re-introduced. If it was meant to spark a debate, then it seemed one sided and populist. Given that there is no current debate on the subject, was it to start one? if so then i really fail to see the point.Back to the balance issue, there were lots of points made about the views of victims and victims families, usually the strong characters, only one quite weak defender of human rights and no mention of the mass of wrong convictions that spread over the history of law.
- was it simply meant as a good drams? well here i think it generally was. McCready played an excellent part as GG and it was only spoiled by my constant search for answers to the other questions, that may not have come up had a non living or fictional person been used in the story.

bealdor @ 10:54 pm: Some you do some you don't
So off we went Saturday night to Subversion with me, surpise, surprise, shock, horror, in male mode. i know, what is the world coming to? Aaaaanyway a good night, as usual, loads of new faces and some very nice ones too. The usual reprobates were in attendance and to those that were missing, your names are on the list!
Traffic was absolutely chocker in the Euston Road, god knows why. We came down the side of Euston Station and came to a full-stop. So we threw a right down to Russell Square and took a left at Theobalds Road and worked our way over to our usual route down the Goswell Road. A good alternative actually which cuts out the hustle and bustle of Kings Cross and The Angel.
As always we arrive just after opening time so a distinct lack of bodies but it soon warmed up, Ray and Sian, Penny and Dave, Bobette and smattering of others then a sudden flood of attendees. Too, too many to mention. We took our leave around 2 as we had plans for the Sunday. Although i like to 'feel' my music i'm beginning to wonder if Conrad is right. Really LOUD music does seem to upset my bodily functions which is awful as i say i like my music, well, deafening. Ah well.
Journey home is uneventful, trouble at the pub on Highbury and islington roundabout and again as we get up near Archway. As i mention to D the next day, two meat waggons, a car and an ambulance and she says "i'll raise your two meat waggons....."
So deprived of drag we took ourselves off to the London Fetish Fair on Sunday.... Oh yes. Any doubts i had re the new wig were quickly dispelled i can tell you. That and the rather tight, short frock caused quite a stir, tee hee. Parking was a doddle, almost outside, that makes a change!
Quite a change at the LFF. Some of our favourites are missing, no Vicky of Ultimate Leather, no Cass of Engineers of Desire. No, more frilly things, which does not impress us i'm afraid. Can't see us going back very often. Still we got to see the lovely Claire who was a little jaded after three days at the Whitby Goth Fest.
Our late night, the previous night takes its toll and we leave around 4. it is suggested that a certain person requires fish-n-chips, mmmmm, so we make our way almost home and a little detour and....... its shut so a further detour and the abandonment of fish to be substituted by Maccy D. Now i don't know HOW long its been since i had Maccy D, especially in this one. i'm lost, they have re-fitted, its different. Luckily i had removed all the slap and changed before we left the LFF. We find somewhere to sit and within minutes are so relieved we didn't go downstairs, there is a bloody kids party down there!!!!
So its home and sat down to watch last nights Strictly Come Dancing, ooo those frocks, i just lurve those FROCKS!!!

theljstaff, posting in news @ 01:15 pm: LiveJournal Major Notes: Spam counter-attack, RSS feeds again, CSI Deadly Intent contest

The empire strikes back

In recent weeks, we've taken huge steps towards blocking spam accounts on LiveJournal. In fact, we've suspended as many as 30,000 accounts in a single day! We've implemented several pre-emptive measures to prevent the creation of spam accounts, and we've honed our detection of suspicious content. Spam bots are a crafty lot, so we'll continue to refine our tactics and keep up the good fight to keep you safe from spam attacks on LiveJournal.

RSS feeds again

If you're addicted to [info]xkcd_rss, [info]icanhaschzbrgr, or other syndicated feeds, we're pleased to report that we've resolved the update error that was mucking up your RSS feeds. While content was being pulled correctly, it wasn't being posted to the feeds themselves. Late last week, we finally nailed down what we hope was the root problem, so content should post properly. We thank you for your patience.

Wii have killer CSI Deadly Intent contests!

There's also a fantastic monthly contest. To enter, join [info]c_s_i, play the online version of CSI: Deadly Intent, and respond to a two-part query for a chance to win a Wii! Entries will be judged on composition and originality. Sorry, but you must be a U.S. resident and over 18 years old to participate. Check out the rules here.

Enveloped in postcards

Last week, we asked you to send in postcards to help us decorate our drab concrete walls. Here's a photo of the results so far! Thank you so much and please keep them coming! You can mail them to Frank the Goat, Esq., c/o LiveJournal, Inc., 539 Bryant Street, Suite 210, San Francisco, CA 94107. Be sure to include your username, since we'll be giving ten random users paid account credits.

lucifire @ 07:04 am: thanks to everyone who came down to The Crown & 2 Chairmen, esp. all the beautiful clowns who totally made our night. Sarah and the rest of the Essex posse, great to meet you again, you rule!

We had a fantastic night, it was wonderful to be so close up and to see all the faces of the audience so clearly. There really was no escape from the horror!

With no stage to work from we were right on top of the crowd but all our planning of seating and sightlines seemed to pay off and i think everyone had a good view (some got more of an eyeful than they bargained for!). The shows went well, all things considered. The mic feedback kinda put me off my songs but the inflatable boobs and the eyehooks seemed to distract.

BTW that was The Tusk's first eyehook endeavour, we hope you enjoyed it, more of that action to come as it develops.

It's a long time since we did the bug eating but it seemed like a perfect venue and it certainly caused a stir. Special mention to "pussyhole" and the lovely Laurie Hagen for their starring roles. After all the shows were finished we had loads of people sampling the lil critters, Happy Halloween!

As to "the ribbon", I can now put your mindss at rest that the remaining floss has been safely extracted from the Tusk. We are both disappointed that we didn't get to pass it round the crowd more before it snapped :( Don't worry, we'll try harder next time.

Big thanks to clowns Toby, Alice and Ben for all your help and to Amanda Mae Steele for makeup talents.

Also to the kabaret massive for your support: Dusty Limits, Ophelia Bitz, Nathan Evans, Kitty Bang Bang and Laurie Hagen (sorry for pickin on you sweetie).

Thanks to Andrew for inviting us and to the lovely staff who all joined in the fun.

Please post up some pics of your gorgeous selves (& the show if you have). Once again we completely failed to take any pics :(

lucifire @ 07:02 am: THX to all the beautiful clowns, friendly faces and kabaret shakers who made Sat night night so wonderful. See http://ping.fm/vVlLz for details..

caleb2006 @ 12:37 pm: a good effort i think!
Woke at 7am on saturday morning and got back to bed at 5am Sunday - 22 hours!
In betwen i drove over350miles, visited family, saw a football match, went to tg (as a zombie soldier with gouged out eye).
Sunday did nt happen though to be fair - out of bed at 1pm and no need for make up to look like a zombie at all.

Work again today (booooo!) but feeling reasonably recovered.

Hows things in the clean world?
Why am i asking here?

bealdor @ 04:22 pm: Witchypoo
Off we went tearing into the darkness heading for all that is chav in this tawdry world, yep Essex, well a select enclave, Canvey island. Never been before and here we were arriving after dark !!! Ooooo we were sooo brave.
We arrive on the island, things are looking up, trolling up the road comes my type of woman, pole dancer shoes, tightly laced corset and a pair of large breasts trying their best to escape.
SatNav says turn right, we do, Satnav says 'you have arrived", we stop. Mmmmmm investigate house numbers, ahhhh it's another six houses down, move car, now we have arrived.
Quick hello's followed by a quick change act and Madelaine is ready to party!
Great night a good mix of vanilla and fetish cut short'sh by the thought of an hour and a half drive home so we take our leave around 12.45 and step indoors about 2.00.
Subversion next week, The 5th Element, all space type things and oh boy have an outfit, main problem is it ain't drag. Me, at a club, not in drag, what is the world coming to!!!!!

So orft to a Halloween party Saturday in a new frock. Yep we got it made, not sure about the little witches hat i got. i'll take it but whether it stays on for long is another matter. Mind you i'm not that fussed on the tights either, i think i prefer black but hey they do co-ordinate in a big way.
So a trip to Canvey island, never been there before, proper Essex innit and seaside Essex too!
